The Mozambican government intends next year to expand the country’s industrial park to the transformation (import substitution) sector, with a view to reducing the import of goods and consumer products.
Minister of Industry and Commerce Carlos Mesquita considers that a robust industrial park strategy, associated with a broad change from the informal to the formal sector, could also allow for greater revenue collection for the state.
Carlos Mesquita was speaking in Maputo this Wednesday (15-12) during the New Year’s Briefing at the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA).
CTA president Agostinho Vuma in reply emphasized that the business environment had this year been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
In his turn, António Moura, Portugal’s ambassador to Mozambique, highlighted the private sector as a strategic partner in the materialization of his country’s Mais Emprego program, aimed at young people in Cabo Delgado.
Under the initiative, the Portuguese government plans by 2024 to disburse around €4.2 million fostering job opportunities for young people in Cabo Delgado.
